Reading List
What I'm reading, a quick synopsis of what it's about, and why I'm enjoying it. Think of this as a personal recommendation list. Mostly finance, science, and practical thinking, with the occasional fiction book I just picked up for fun.
Employer
A novel about a secret academy that teaches its students how to plan and get away with murdering the terrible people in their lives, told through the confession of a first-time student turning in his final assignment. I'm enjoying it because it's genuinely funny, cleverly plotted, and a nice break from the finance and productivity books. If you want a smart, dark comedy that doesn't take itself too seriously, this one's worth picking up.
Buy on Amazon →A dark comedy about an underground school that trains ordinary people to get away with murdering the awful bosses in their lives. It's clever, funny, and a lot lighter than it sounds. Recommending it if you want a fun read that isn't trying to teach you anything.
Buy on AmazonA classic on value investing, built around protecting your downside first and staying patient instead of chasing hype. I like it because it reframes the market as a mood swinging neighbor you don't have to listen to. Worth reading if you want a calmer, longer-term way to think about investing. I've set it down for a bit, but I'll be back to finish it.
Buy on AmazonEinstein's own plain-language explanation of special and general relativity, covering how time and motion depend on where you're standing. I'm enjoying seeing the ideas explained by the person who came up with them, even if it's dense in places. Worth reading if you want the real thing instead of a pop-science summary.
Buy on AmazonA practical guide to building habits that stick, centered on the idea that systems beat goals. What I liked most was the focus on identity-based habits, which stuck with me far more than any goal-based advice ever did. Worth reading if you want habit changes that actually last.
Buy on AmazonA collection of short stories about how people actually behave with money, arguing that doing well financially has more to do with behavior than knowledge. I enjoyed how it reframes seemingly irrational money decisions as entirely rational given someone's own experiences. Recommending it to anyone who wants a quick, human read on personal finance.
Buy on AmazonA deep dive into the two ways we think: fast and automatic versus slow and deliberate, and how often we let the fast one make decisions it shouldn't. I enjoyed catching myself doing exactly what the book describes while reading it. Worth reading if you want to notice your own bad thinking habits in real time.
Buy on AmazonThe investor's chief problem, and even his worst enemy, is likely to be himself.
Benjamin Graham · The Intelligent InvestorYou don't rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.
James Clear · Atomic HabitsI read to learn new things or just to keep myself off the screens now a days. When a book is worth passing along, it ends up here with a quick synopsis and an honest reason why I think you'd enjoy it too.
No star ratings, no grading system. Just what I'm reading right now, what it's about, and why it's earned a spot on this list.
